The Tour of Flanders, or Ronde van Vlaanderen, is one of cycling’s five Monuments and Belgium’s most prestigious one-day race. Held annually in early April, it covers approximately 270 km of relentless terrain, featuring short, steep cobbled climbs known as hellingen. Legendary ascents include the Koppenberg, Oude Kwaremont, and Paterberg, where decisive attacks are launched.
First raced in 1913, the Ronde is a national obsession in Belgium, drawing massive crowds and an electric atmosphere. The unpredictable mix of brutal cobbles, wind, and tactical racing makes it one of the hardest races to win. Past champions include Eddy Merckx, Johan Museeuw, Fabian Cancellara, and Mathieu van der Poel.
A victory in Flanders cements a rider’s legacy in the sport.
